WHEREAS, the Republican Party of
Texas respects the immigrants to the United States who followed the Rule of Law
in order to become citizens, and,
WHEREAS, the Republican Party of
Texas respects the dignity of all citizens and specifically recognizes the many
contributions of legal immigrants to the United
States, and,
WHEREAS, the effects of "Comprehensive
Immigration Reform" work against the goals of the Republican Party of Texas
Platform and the wishes of the majority of the citizens of Texas to
enforce existing immigration laws, and,
WHEREAS, President Bush has now named
an avid proponent of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, U.S. Senator Mel
Martinez of Florida, whose
clearly stated views are in opposition to the Republican Party of Texas' plank
on immigration reform, as his selection for General Chairman of the Republican
National Committee, now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE REPUBLICAN
PARTY OF TEXAS that the RPT opposes the election of an RNC General Chairman, or
any other Republican leader who supports Guest Worker/Amnesty or other legal
status for illegal immigrants in contravention of our RPT Platform, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the
RPT urges its three RNC members, Denise McNamara, Bill Crocker and Tina
Benkiser, to vote for the election of an RNC Chairman who would be
uncompromising in his commitment to border security and protection at the
January RNC meeting, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a
copy of this resolution be sent to President Bush, the Texas Republican
congressional delegation, the Republican House and Senate Minority leaders, and
the Texas members of the RNC.
