TO: Members of the Republican National Committee
I, the undersigned American citizen, am convinced that Senator Mel Martinez (Republican, Florida) can no longer effectively serve as National Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Unlike Senator Martinez, I am firmly convinced that rewarding 12 to 20 million illegal aliens with amnesty will simply destroy the American nation, a nation built upon the rule of law, not ties of blood or ethnicity.
I am horrified to see American politicians, like Senator Martinez, cast aside America's rich history of assimilating legal immigrants in a fruitless quest for the votes of lawbreakers and their self-proclaimed advocates.
I think it is a disgrace for the highest officer in the Republican National Committee, Mel Martinez, to publicly scold his fellow Republicans, including presidential candidates, for opposing amnesty, given that the vast majority of the American people, including most legal immigrants, oppose amnesty.
I suggest that for Mel Martinez to insist upon repeatedly attacking his fellow Republicans over immigration matters is equivalent to William Clay Ford, head of the Ford Motor Company, denouncing Ford products and urging people to purchase Toyotas.
I agree that if the head of an organization cannot support that organization's policies with enthusiasm, he does a grave disservice to both that organization and to his position of trust within it.
I firmly believe the Republican Party's mixed message on amnesty, thanks to Mel Martinez, is hurting its message and its candidates. There is an obvious connection between Mel Martinez's outspoken amnesty advocacy and the fundraising difficulties his fellow Republicans are experiencing.
I believe that no matter how impressive Mel Martinez's personal biography may be, the Republican National Committee needs a leader whose views are at a minimum in general agreement with the views of the vast majority of Republicans.
Accordingly, I will donate no money to the Republican National Committee until its current General Chairman, Mel Martinez, either resigns or is shown the door.
